DMA DSP don't help that much
Posted by: Kochise Jul,07.2004-09:55

For what purpose would you use the DSP in DMA ? The DSP is used for matrix calculation, the texture mapper is the 030 ! DMA DSP wouldn't help then, as it is also as bandwidth limited as the Videl itself. Face it, the Falcon have major drawbacks that can't make it face opponent hardware. Amiga 1200 was even better engineered...

But true, CT60 on itself help for raw calculation purposes. But the F030 motherboard stills the bottleneck of the whole stuff...

Kochise

PS : DSP DMA was sized to carry out 4 stereo channels at 49170 Hz, which brings a theorical bandwidth of 786720 bytes/sec (49170*2(16bits)*2(stereo)*4(channels)) ! It means 6.14625 FPS on a 320*200*2(16bits) screen (786720/128000) if you expected to use the DSP as texture mapper ! Playable at 6 FPS ?
