The amiga guys have nearly ten years of an advantage here (060 coding). In time we'll get there as well, just give it a few years.
There will be 230 CT60s once the second batch has shipped. I think 230 active 060'ers is more than active "16MHz'ers" in the demo scene. And the guys who shelled out for a CT60 are most likely very eager to see things coded for their new baby, even if they are normally not 'into' demos. So yes, I think there's a broader public for CT60 demos than 16MHz ones, once the full batch has shipped that is. It's a question of active users, not machine sales ten years ago.
