I'm sorry earx, you're wrong about sync-scrolling being an Amiga thing. I had 4 bit (vertical) and 8 bit horizontal scrolling working on my BBC B (6502) way before the Atari came out. Repton is a game on the Beep that used it.
Even the ZX 81 could have done Sync scrolling had anyone had enough cycles to use it for something. I wrote code to make it go into "HIGH REZ": 220x256. IIRC it could do 1 line vertical scrolling and 8 bit horizontal scrolling. The trick is that the sync pulses were generated by calling code IN the frame buffer :-) Those were the days. I knew the Z80 mnemonics by heart because the assembler I had crashed so often.
