Jump you are right, seems like stopping and restarting timer b by toggling $fa1b.w is the correct solution. The internal counter seems to be reset when a) timer fires, b) when timer control changes (just setting 8 again does not work).
Oh well... at least I do not need to change the intervals every line :).
