using the os is always preferred, especially when speed is not an issue.

unfortunately, the xbios 5 implementation is rather bad, especially with nvdi or screen expanders installed. it often doesn't return to the right resolutions and garbles the display.

the best alternative is using Aura's or RG's videl routs. these also avoid monochrome setting bugs (which are present in the xbios routs).
